The CAP pathway is designed to support students at all English language levels.

  • Based on your placement test or language score, you will be placed in CAP 1, CAP 2 or CAP 3.  Find your level based on your language test score.

  • After you successfully complete CAP 3, you will be directly enrolled at Temple University!

As a CAP student you will:

  • have the opportunity to earn up to 18 university credits

  • receive academic and English language support with your university credit classes
  • get one-on-one academic advising
  • connect with the university advisor for your major
  • learn essential college skills to succeed in a U.S. university
  • study at Temple University's Main Campus with access to all university facilities and resources
  • build advanced academic English skills and fine-tune pronunciation
  • receive personalized tutoring
  • attend orientation and social events 
  • interact with students from all over the world!

  • focus on writing to develop summary and textual support skills.

  • receive the support your need to build critical skills and gain overall success in the 3-credit general education class, ENG 0711, Academic Discourse & Analysis.
ENG 0837, Eating Cultures *(General Education class, 3 university credits)
  • use literature, cookbooks and ads to explore how food creates individual and global relationships
  • explore aspects of food such as production, preparation and consumption

  • Receive the support your need to build critical skills and gain overall success in the 3-credit general education class, ENG 0837, Eating Cultures.

Math or a Quantitative Literacy class (3 or 4 university credits)
  • Depending on the university's math placement score and major, students will enroll in either a math or a quantitative literacy class. 
Presentations & Pronunciation
  • Prepare for university success by improving your pronunciation, practicing academic presentations and building confidence when speaking in front of a large group.
Reading Intensive
  • Prepare for university course expectations by improving critical reading skills and participate in engaging classroom discussions.
CAP 2
EDUC 0819, Teens & Tweens (General Education class, 3 university credits)
  • Explore the teen and pre-teen years of human development,
  • Use literature, TV, film and articles to explore growth from children to teens to adulthood.

  • Receive the support your need to build critical skills and gain overall success in the 3-credit general education class, EDUC 0819, Teens & Tweens.

Integrated English: Listening and Speaking

Surviving University
  • Learn about university life, expectations and culture. Become familiar with Temple's services and facilities, meet students, staff and professors from across campus.
