For the student and professional alike

Online English is ideal for a beginner intermediate to advanced-English level student or business professional who wants to improve their English, but does not have a lot of time to spend in classes. Since each class meets for just four hours per week, participants can plan around their busy schedules.

We offer five on-line classes by level: beginner, intermediate, and high intermediate/advanced. Two of these on-line classes focus specifically on the language and communication skills needed for students and professionals in the hospitality & tourism industry.

General English Courses

Basic English Communication Skills (BECS)

Level: Beginner, CEFR A2 to B1

Description: This speaking course will develop spoken English through conversation and collaborative tasks. Each lesson focuses on a particular theme and progresses through four main phases which elicit language in spoken interactions. Because the theme can change each session, students may repeat this class until they meet their desired target outcomes. By the end of this course, students will gain confidence in speaking by discussing everyday topics and participating in collaborative tasks utilizing the target language. You will: 

  • Plan a dinner party on a budget
  • Plan a road trip in your country on a budget
  • Create and present a must-see guide for your hometown (or other city of choice)
  • Design a robot/AI to serve your community
  • Create an Instagram Reel or TikTok video on a topic of your choice

Presentations and Pronunciation (P&P)

Level: Intermediate, CEFR B1+ to B2

Description: Gain the skills and confidence you need to deliver successful presentations in English. You will:

  • plan, research, organize and present presentations on a variety of topics
  • use instructor and peer feedback to improve performance
  • develop and practice presentation delivery skills including speaking volume, eye contact and more
  • learn best practices in PowerPoint design
  • receive individualized feedback from instructor to improve pronunciation accuracy
  • build confidence when communicating in and out of the classroom

Professional and Academic English (PACE)

Level: High Intermediate to Advanced, CEFR B2 to C1

Description: Develop academic and professional English through spoken interaction on varying weekly topics. You will:

  • share your connection to the lesson topic with your own ideas, beliefs, experiences, and knowledge
  • read, discuss and analyze an excerpt from current news or academic publication
  • collaborate with classmates to solve open-ended and real-world problems
  • examine and discuss a visual illustration of quantitative data related to the topic

Online Hospitality and Tourism Courses

English for Hospitality & Tourism 1

Level: High Intermediate to Advanced, CEFR B2 to  C1

Through interactive simulations, intercultural case studies, and practical communication tasks, students improve their spoken English and develop confidence in professional customer service settings. Learners build industry-specific vocabulary, analyze real-world travel literature, and practice writing effective customer service emails and using generative AI tools.

Academic English Courses

Academic Culture and Expectations in the U.S.

Level: High Intermediate/CEFR B2

Description: This course helps students to understand and critically analyze the social and academic culture of U.S. universities through discussions on relevant topics, news clips on issues important to universities in general, and discussions of personal perceptions of university campus life. 

Academic Writing 1

Level: High Intermediate/CEFR B2

Description: Academic Writing 1 introduces the skills needed to write a variety of academic essays. As they prepare to write, students will analyze sample texts, paying attention to the style and structure of the essays. Students will be introduced to the use of outside sources in writing. As they work on this skill, students will review essential reading skills needed to comprehend the source texts and will learn strategies for avoiding plagiarism. Grammar, vocabulary, and structures will be taught in the context of students’ writing.  

Academic Writing 2

Level: High Intermediate/CEFR B2

Description: Academic Writing 2 prepares students to produce clear, well-structured academic essays. Specifically, students will collaboratively analyze sample essays to understand the structure and style of various essay types. Students will also review selected reading articles and incorporate information from these outside sources into their own writing. Students will also analyze the implications of plagiarism to understand why this practice is important. Students will then work to develop topic and thesis statements, outline and produce first drafts, and engage in the revision process. Relevant grammar, vocabulary, and writing structures will be taught in the context of the student’s writing.   

AI Essentials for Academic Success

Level: High Intermediate/CEFR B2

Description: This course covers essential the skills to navigate and ethically use generative A.I. tools in academic settings. Students will explore and define what is permissible for A.I. use, how A.I. can support academic tasks, when it may conflict with academic integrity, and how to recognize and address bias in A.I. outputs.
