Courses

Language and Culture Enrichment

Students will improve their understanding of American culture by

  • exploring the origins of American culture - why do we do what we do? 

  • learning about our history and culture through field trips to historical and cultural sites 

  • practicing English with real Americans during field trips

  • creating your own "Travel Guide" to share your insights into Philadelphia and our culture with your friends and family

Integrated English

Students will improve their core English skills by

  • taking English classes with students from around the world
  • watching videos and reading literature related to the arts and freedom of expression as experienced in the United States
  • practicing your English speaking daily through classroom activities

Housing, Meals and Airport Pick-Up & Drop-Off

Meals
  • Students should be prepared to bring personal funds for the purchase of meals or snacks when they are not on Temple's campus. 
  • WINTER: Breakfast will be provided by the hotel. Students can use their meal plan card for campus dining hall meals* and personal funds to purchase meals and snacks as needed.
  • SUMMER: Students can use their meal plan card for campus dining hall meals* and personal funds to purchase meals and snacks as needed. 
  • Meals for regional trips must be packed in advance or can be purchased using student’s personal funds

*Meal plan card for dining hall is purchased only for students doing the 4-week ACT program. Meal Plan is available for an additional $300 for 25 meals in the campus dining hall. If the meal plan card is lost, the student must pay a replacement fee of $50 for a new card. The student is responsible for paying this fee - the program will not cover the cost of any lost meal plan cards.

 

Housing and Transportation

Living accommodations are provided in the program cost.
In winter, ACT students may live in a Temple University affiliated hotel in downtown Philadelphia.

  • Live in the heart of the city - in winter 2024, students stayed here and they loved it!
  • Commute to campus and site visits with your SEPTA pass, included in the program cost
  • Enjoy a shared room (same gender) with a kitchenette
  • Hotel accommodations may include housekeeping and free wi-fi 
  • A lite breakfast is included

In summer, ACT students may live in a residence hall on Temple University’s campus.

  • Enjoy a shared room (same gender) with a full kitchen
  • Access to do laundry (students must pay to do laundry)
  • Free Wi-Fi available
  • Towel, pillow, blanket and sheets washed weekly
  • Students will take public transportation from Temple for local trips and for longer trips, a charter bus or Temple University bus
  • Important note: Lost keys will incur up to a $150 fee
Airport Pick-Up and Drop-Off

Airport pick-up and drop-off are provided between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Temple University campus only. Arrivals and departures outside of scheduled dates and times may be able to be accommodated for an additional fee. If we cannot make accommodations, we will provide detailed transportation and hotel information. 

Eligibility & Requirements

Students must have completed high school and be at least 18 years old.

An ideal participant is a current university student.
